Enjoy eight leisurely days featuring local culture and breathtakingly beautiful nature.  You’ll visit the capital Reykjavik and then travel along Iceland’s southern coast staying in farmhouses or country hotels along the way

Day 1 -  Wednesday,  May 1st, 2013
Overnight flight to Reykjavík, Iceland

Day 2 – Thursday, May 2nd – Reykjavík
Upon arrival, we’ll be met by a private chauffeur, who will transfer us from Keflavík Airport to our hotel in Reykjavík. After checking into our hotel you’ll have a bit of time to freshen up before we take a sightseeing
tour of  Iceland’s charming capital. Your tour will include the highlights in the city and some of the surrounding towns, such as the Presidential Residence, the Hallgrímskirkja church and Hafnafjörður the town where the “hidden people” and humans live together in harmony. Tonight after a hearty welcome dinner together, if weather conditions allow, you will be taken for a tour on a hunt for the magnificent northern lights – also 
known as Aurora Borealis. (D) 

Day 3 – Friday, May 3rd – Gullfoss and Geysir
Today we’ll take in some of the best known attractions in the south of Iceland. You’ll visit the unique Þingvellir National Park; listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List and a site of immense beauty and history. Then we’ll head to the great Geysir area and explore the bubbling mud pots, geysers before arriving at the stunning two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall. Then we’ll visit the old bishopry at Skálholt and the explosion crater Kerið, now partially filled with water. Tonight we’ll stay in the Selfoss/Hekla area.  (B, D)

Day 4 – Saturday, May 4th – The South Coast
Another wonderful day of sightseeing begins today as we visit the mysterious Seljalandsfoss, one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls. You will be able to walk right behind the flowing water which is a unique experience. We’ll then continue to the 195 foot, free-falling Skógafoss waterfalls in Skógar,where you will find many interesting artifacts on display at the folk museum.   At Mýrdalsjökull, you will have the opportunity to 
experience a guided glacial hike in the area. A wonderful dinner awaits at our hotel tonight. (B, D)

Day 5 – Sunday, May 5th – Skaftafell and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
Rise and Shine! Today we will explore Skaftafell, a part of Vatnajökull National Park and a place of great beauty with many interesting hiking trails, including a short one to the beautiful Svartifoss waterfall. Afterwards, we’ll head to the amazing Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon where you can see many floating icebergs. We’ll visit the fishing village of Höfn and its Glacial Exhibition where we will learn about the dynamic forces of ice and fire shaping the Icelandic nature. Tonight, we’ll overnight in Höfn.  (B, D)

Day 6 – Monday, May 6th – Black Volcanic Beach
Today you’ll drive along the south coast to Vík. Worthwhile stops along the way include the Farm Zoo in Holmur, Fjaðrarárgljúfur Canyon and Dverghamrar Elve’s Cliffs. You’ll experience the stunning black volcanic sand beach south of Vík at Reynisdrangar and last but not least the rock formations of Dyrhólaey. We’ll stay in the Vík region tonight. (B, D)

Day 7– Tuesday, May 7th – Back to Reykjavík
Our journey continues to the volcanic wonderland of Reykjanes Peninsula. You’ll visit the Blue Lagoon geothermal seawater spa, set in a magical black lava field. It is rich in silica and blue-green algae, which gives the lagoon its reputed healing powers. Relaxing in-water massages are available but you can also unwind in the
saunas and steam baths or get a natural massage under the Blue Lagoon waterfall. We’ll then drive along the south coast back to Reykjavík. We’ll make stops along the way near the village Hveragerði. We’ll then head back to Reykjavik where you can do some last-minute shopping or enjoy a bit of free time at your leisure. A farewell dinner in the heart of Reykjavik will be hosted tonight. (B, D)

Day 8 – Wednesday, May 8th – return home
This morning, after a hearty breakfast, we will travel to Reykjavík’s Keflavík Airport for our return flights home. (B)
