YAMATO “ITADAKIMASU” CULINARY TOUR

SEPTEMBER 6-17, 2017 (12 Days / 10 Nights)

 
Sept. 6, Wed.  LEAVE LOS ANGELES.  We will cross the International Date Line, losing one day.  

Sept. 7, Thurs.  ARRIVE TOKYO/NARITA.  Upon arrival in Japan, and after entry procedures, we will transfer by chartered coach to our hotel.                                    

Sept. 8, Fri.  TOKYO.  Our sightseeing will include the Edo Tokyo Museum, Sensoji Temple, Tokyo Skytree, and Ginza Kabuki Gallery.  Enjoy a delicious tempura lunch.     (B L)          

Sept. 9, Sat.  TOKYO - YAIZU - SHIZUOKA - LAKE KAWAGUCHI.  Today we will travel to Shizuoka for a full day of touring.  Our culinary activities will include Yaizu Fish Market and Greenpia Makinohara, where we will participate in a tea leaf picking experience.              (B D)                                           

Sept. 10, Sun.  LAKE KAWAGUCHI - MATSUMOTO.  Today, we will go on a full day tour around Mt. Fuji.  We will visit Itchiku Kubota Art Museum, Asamaen Farm, and Hakushu Whiskey Factory.  Enjoy watching a Taiko show while having lunch at Hibiki No Sato.  Continue to Matsumoto.     (B L)  

Sept. 11, Mon.  MATSUMOTO - KISO VALLEY - SEKI - GIFU.  This morning, we will visit the Ishii Miso Factory before departing for  Kiso Valley.  We will visit the nostalgic post towns of Tsumago and Magome.  In the afternoon, we will visit the Seki Knife Museum, and continue on to Gifu.   (B L)

Sept. 12, Tues.  GIFU - KYOTO. This morning, we will travel to Uji for a green tea tasting experience.  Then, we will continue to Kyoto and visit the Fushimi Inari Shrine.   (B)     

Sept. 13, Wed.  KYOTO.  We will enjoy a variety of sightseeing and culinary activities, including Kyoto Imperial Palace, Japanese confectionary making, Arashiyama, Golden Pavilion, and the Gion District.  Enjoy a special dinner with a traditional Maiko performance.    (B L D)    

Sept. 14, Thurs.  KYOTO.  We will have an opportunity to participate in a fun cooking class, followed by lunch that will include menu items we prepared.  The menu will include Kyoto-style eggplant with mustard miso, matsutake soup, nikumaki pepper, and fruit daifuku.  Afternoon visit to Nishiki Market.    (B L)

Sept. 15, Fri.  KYOTO - HIROSHIMA.  Today we journey to Hiroshima, and visit the Peace Memorial Museum. Then, depart by ferry to Miyajima, where we will visit Itsukushima Shrine followed by Nakamise Shopping Street.
For lunch, we will enjoy okonomiyaki, a Hiroshima specialty.         (B L)         

Sept. 16, Sat.  HIROSHIMA - OSAKA.  This morning, we will enjoy a special peace-themed activity with the local people of Hiroshima before continuing to Osaka.     (B)

Sept. 17, Sun.   OSAKA.   This morning, we will visit a local farm where we will learn about the high technology utilized in their current operations, followed by a delightful lunch featuring their fresh produce. Then, we will depart for Kansai International Airport for our nonstop flight back to Los Angeles, returning home the same day.    (B L)
