April 5, Tue. LEAVE LOS ANGELES. Depart Los Angeles, non stop to Osaka’s Kansai International Airport. En route, we cross the International Date Line, arriving Osaka the next day. April 6, Wed. ARRIVE OSAKA/KANSAI. Upon arrival in early evening, and after entry procedures, we transfer to our hotel. April 7, Thu. OSAKA. This morning we visit the grounds of the Osaka Mint Bureau, where there are more than 300 cherry trees. Will they be in bloom? After that, we will visit the famous Osaka Castle. We will also visit the colorful entertainment area of Dotonbori. (B L) April 8, Fri. OSAKA – HIROSHIMA. Today we will travel to Hiroshima by Shinkansen (bullet train). On arrival we will visit the Peace Memorial Park & Museum. (B L) April 9, Sat. HIROSHIMA - MIYAJIMA - HIROSHIMA. This morning we will visit Miyajima, considered one of the three most scenic spots in Japan. The island is home to the beautiful Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our lunch is a specialty of the area: okonomiyaki. (B L) April 10, Sun. HIROSHIMA – KYOTO. This morning we will travel by train to Kyoto Station. On arrival, our sightseeing will include Nijo Castle and Kinkakuji (the Golden Pavilion). We return to Kyoto Station and to our hotel, conveniently located in the station. (B D) April 11, Mon. KYOTO. Today is a free day to explore this culturally rich city on your own. If you are interested in joining a tour to Nara, let us know and it will be arranged for you. Our guide will have other suggestions for you. (B) April 12, Tue. KYOTO – TAKAYAMA. This morning we take the train to Takayama, a small city located in the mountainous Hida region of Gifu Prefecture. The traditions and charm of the city date back to the 16th Century. (B D) April 13, Wed. TAKAYAMA. Today our sightseeing will begin at the morning market selling local crafts, snacks and farm products. Then we will visit Yatai Kaikan to see the huge beautifully decorated floats used during their local festivals. Afternoon is free for independent activities. (B) April 14, Thu. TAKAYAMA – SHIRAKAWAGO - KANAZAWA. Today we journey to Kanazawa by bus, visiting en route the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Shirakawago. On arrival in Kanazawa, we will visit Kenrokuen Garden, considered one of the three most beautiful landscape gardens in Japan, and the restored Kanazawa Castle. (B D) April 15, Fri. KANAZAWA. Our sightseeing of Kanazawa, continues today with the Nagamachi area which is the samurai district where samurai and their families lived; and the Chaya districts, a historical entertainment area with tea houses where geisha performed. Afternoon at leisure. (B) April 16, Sat. KANAZAWA - TOKYO. This morning, we travel to Tokyo by train. On arrival, our sightseeing will include the Imperial Palace Plaza, Asakusa Kannon Temple and Nakamise Shopping Arcade, leading up to the temple. (B L) April 17, Sun. TOKYO – NIKKO - TOKYO. Today we visit the World Heritage site of Nikko – and we will discover for ourselves the meaning of the Japanese saying “Never say kekko, until you’ve seen Nikko.” (B L) April 18, Mon. TOKYO. Full day free to explore this exciting city on your own. This evening we will enjoy our “farewell dinner” together in the hotel. (B D) April 19, Tue. HOMEWARD BOUND. Free morning for last minute sightseeing or shopping. This afternoon we transfer to Narita International Airport for our nonstop flight to Los Angeles, arriving home on the same day.
