YAMATO HOKKAIDO TOUR
MAY 22 – JUNE 2, 2018  (12 days / 10 nights)

May 22, Tue.     Leave Los Angeles.  We will cross the International Date Line, losing one day.

May 23, Wed.   Arrive Tokyo/Haneda – Sapporo.  On arrival in Japan and after entry procedures, we will transfer to our domestic flight to Sapporo, where we will enjoy a tour of the city including Sapporo Brewery; the Clock Tower- the symbol of the city; and the old Hokkaido Government Building.    (L)

May 24, Thu.  Sapporo – Otaru - Sapporo.  Today we will travel to Otaru where we will see the Otaru Canal and stroll along Sakaimachi Street - rows of antique buildings that house glass makers, restaurants and a Music Box Hall.  Return to Sapporo in the afternoon.  (B D)

May 25, Fri.     Sapporo – Sounkyo.  This morning we leave for Sounkyo Gorge, greatest of the many gorges in Daisetsuzan National Park.   (B D)

May 26, Sat.     Sounkyo – Lake Akan.  This morning, weather permitting, we will ride the cable-car up the mountain for magnificent views.  Then to the Mint Museum in Kitami, and to Bihoro Pass before arriving at our hotel in Lake Akan.  (B D)

May 27, Sun.     Lake Akan – Kushiro.  Today depending on the weather, we will cruise across Lake Akan, known for “marimo”, a green weed, shaped like balls, designated as a Special Protected Plant. Then on to Kushiro.

May 28, Mon.     Kushiro.  We will visit the Kushiro Shitsugen National Park, home of the red-crested white cranes. We will also visit the observation building for views of the area.  Then visit Fisherman’s wharf, near our hotel.  (B)

May 29, Tue.  Kushiro – Ikeda - Obihiro.  We will travel to the city of Ikeda, famous for their winery, then to the agricultural center of Obihiro.    (B)

May 30, Wed.    Obihiro – Lake Toya.  Today we leave for Lake  Toya, a circular caldera lake, the highlight of Shikotsu-Toya National Park, visiting the Salmon Aquarium in Chitose en route.  (B D)

May 31, Thu.  Lake Toya.  Today we will go to Mt. Showa Shinzan, an active volcano, formed by a series of earthquakes that caused the farmlands to rise, and is now 1,340 feet high.  We will visit the Volcano Museum and then continue to Shiraoi Poroto Kotan, a composite of Ainu dwellings, which were restored to introduce their way of life. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.  (B D)

June 1, Fri.   Lake Toya – Onuma - Hakodate.    We leave for Hakodate, the gateway to Hokkaido. En route we will stop at Onuma Quasi-National Park, a nature lover’s paradise.  A special “farewell dinner” is planned in Hakodate.  Weather-permitting you will be taken to view the spectacular city lights.   (B D)

June 2, Sat.    Hakodate – Tokyo – Los Angeles.  Our city tour will include the Morning Market, Goryokaku, Japan’s first Western-style fortification and Motomachi area. to see the Western-influenced streets remaining today. Then you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Tokyo/Haneda to catch your nonstop flight back to Los Angeles, returning home the same day.   (B)

Land only cost: $4,995.00 per person, based upon two people sharing a twin bedded room.  

Single room supplement is $700.00 for single room occupancy.

Airfare:  Air is separate.  Group fares are based upon a minimum of 10 persons traveling together.  For fewer than 10 persons, we will use the lowest fare available at the time of finalizing the tour.   

English-speaking Tour Guide:  Mr. Shigeru Shinohara, will meet you on arrival in Sapporo and will travel with you throughout Hokkaido.
