Day 2, July 10th, Saturday - Niagara Region and Toronto
Today we will explore the Niagara Falls region. You’ll have a bit of free time to view and photograph the Falls, as well as gift-shop in the area. We’ll sail on the “Maid of the Mist” into the giant mists at the base of the falls an unforgettable experience! Then we’ll travel along the scenic Niagara Parkway to view the hydroelectric works on the Niagara River as well as several other points of interest. You’ll visit one of the famous local wineries, specializing in Icewine, a Canadian favorite. Afterwards you’ll discover the charming town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, where you will have free time for lunch. This afternoon, we will travel to Toronto, Canada’s largest city. You’ll visit a small art gallery, specializing in the work of the Group of Seven - a group of Canada’s most celebrated painters from the turn of the century. This evening, you’ll dine in the highest restaurant in the world at the CN Tower, and you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the city and Lake Ontario. (B, D) Day 3, July 11th, Sunday - Toronto - Thousand Islands - Ottawa.
Today we will do a bit of exploring in Toronto before continuing our route east to the Saint Lawrence River where you will enjoy a leisurely cruise in the peaceful scenery of the Thousand Islands region. This afternoon, we will arrive in the national capital: Ottawa where you will take in a city tour - including all of the major highlights of the town. You’ll see Parliament Hill, the War Memorial, the Prime Minister’s residence on Sussex Drive, the famous Rideau Canal and you’ll discover this quaint and unusual national capital. Tonight, an optional excursion to a local casino is possible (free of charge) for tour participants who wish to try their luck in one of Canada’s government-run Casinos. (B,L,D) Day 4, July 12th, Monday - Ottawa and Montreal
Rise and Shine! Today, after a hearty breakfast, you will visit the Canadian Parliament buildings, see the House of Commons, the Senate Chamber and ascend the Peace Tower where a memorial chapel to Canada’s war dead is kept. Afterwards, you’ll experience the colorful Changing of the Guard Ceremony on Parliament Hill. You’ll enjoy free time for lunch at a local farmers market and then we will travel southeast to Montreal, the second largest french-speaking city in the world, after Paris. A city tour of Montreal will include, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Mount Royal, the site of the 1976 Olympics, and all of the major highlights of this city. We’ll also explore the city’s famous underground city - where you will have free time to dine at your leisure. (B) Day 5, July 13th, Tuesday - Montreal and Quebec City
Today, we will travel from one of Canada’s most vibrant cities, to one of it’s most charming cities: Quebec City. You’ll discover the city this afternoon as we take in a comprehensive tour which will help you to understand the history and politics of Canada . You’ll visit the Old City, see the Provincial Parliament buildings as well as the National Battlefield Park (site of France’s defeat at the hands of the British in 1759). You’ll also enjoy a walk in the Old City where a fine full-course French dinner awaits. (B,D) Day 6, July 14th, Wednesday - Quebec City and Region
Today is a busy day of adventure as we travel east along the Saint Lawrence River for sightseeing. You’ll enjoy the pretty countryside which is dotted with typical French-colonial farmhouses, many of which date from the 18th century - and have retained their historic charm. You’ll also visit the famous Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre, a religious pilgrimage site where many local people believe miracles take place. It is a very beautiful religious building with an interesting history. Late this afternoon, we will return to Quebec for our farewell dinner. (B,D) Day 7, July 15th, Thursday - Quebec City - return home. POSSIBLE EXTENSION: $350.00 in double occupancy, in addition to the cost
of the 7-day tour. Our tour director, Philippe, is originally from this area. For many years he has travelled the region avidly and extensively, in search of good camping and hiking areas as well as “the best place for a cup of chowder”. Philippe is a “bon-vivant” and a “good eater”. Our clients consistently have rave reviews over his restaurant choices in places like Paris, or Rome. Closer to home, Philippe has designed a special extension to this tour, for fellow-foodies, people who like himself, have a passion for seafood in particular (kindly note that delicious non-seafood options will be available at every meal for passengers who desire it). Seafaring Villages and Seafood Tour: Day 7, July 15th, Thursday - overnight in a remote village on the shore of the estuary of the Saint Lawrence River. Seafood dinner - and local culture. (B, D) Day 8, July 16th, Friday - A scenic routes in the Canadian wilderness Day 9, July 17th, Saturday - return to civilization -and return flights home! (B) POSSIBILITY OF A PRIVATE TOUR: If you really wish to discover the seacoast, Philippe can make travel arrangements for a few passengers to join him on an informal tour to his hometown and to the Acadian Peninsula in remote, northern New Brunswick. This tour will travel well off the beaten path feature rustic (though comfortable) accommodations - and hearty local food.
